Douglaston includes residential areas with detached homes, varied architectural styles, and streets that differ from Queens’ regular grid. Douglas Manor, on the peninsula toward Little Neck Bay, is a particularly distinctive part of its landscape.

Other sections sit closer to Northern Boulevard and major travel routes. Gardens, mature trees, and the relationship between a house and its lot contribute to the area’s character, with considerable variation between its different residential pockets.
