Greenpoint combines traditional residential streets with a changing East River waterfront. Wooden houses, brick rowhouses, apartment buildings, and former industrial properties reflect different periods of the neighborhood’s development.

Manhattan Avenue provides a busy commercial spine, while streets toward the river open to waterfront parks and newer residential buildings. The contrast between the older inland blocks and the larger scale of the waterfront is central to Greenpoint’s character.
