Amityville brings historic buildings, a recognizable village center, and South Shore waterways together near the Nassau–Suffolk border. Broadway and Merrick Road frame much of the commercial area, with residential streets extending toward the Great South Bay.

Older houses and later residences give the village a varied architectural character. The center and the waterfront streets offer different ways to experience the community. This guide focuses on Amityville Village, rather than the separate North Amityville hamlet.
